Storing Metal Cutting Dies

Updated: Mar 26

One of the most asked questions in Facebook groups dedicated to cutting dies is 'How do you guys store your dies?'

When you start out buying cutting dies, it's pretty easy to remember what they were. Once you start amassing them, then it gets difficult. Especially when you have a lot of words and complicated shapes. The best method we've found is to use A5 spiral display folders (no more than 40) and A4 magnetic sheets cut down to A5 with an A5 piece of card behind the magnetic sheets.

It's best not to put dies on each side of the pockets. The display folders get incredibly heavy if filled this way.

Keeping one folder for each type of cutting die, for example: words, alphabet & numbers images, frames & shapes and tags and boxes helps keep them well organised. Some dies are larger and need an A4 method of storage. Our resident crafter Nik keeps hers in clear pockets with strong cardboard to keep them from bending.

Taking a screenshot of the dies when you buy them and printing them on to labels means you can stick them on the outside of the display pockets making it a breeze to know what they are.
